June is Men’s Health Month: Prioritize Your Health!


June is Men’s Health Month, and NJHA urges men across the state to prioritize their health by getting the recommended health screenings for cardiovascular health, prostate, diabetes and others.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that in 2017 the leading causes of death in men in the U.S. often times is higher than comparable death rates in women for the same time period, including:

  • Heart disease 24.2 percent (men) vs. 21.8 percent (women)
  • Cancer 21.9 percent (men) vs. 20.7 percent (women)
  • Diabetes 3.2 percent (men) vs. 2.7 percent (woman)

First established in 1994 as National Men’s Health Week, the effort has become a monthlong observance to raise awareness about healthcare for men and focus on encouraging boys, men and their families to implement healthy living decisions such as exercising and eating health.
