ED Visits Down for Emergent Cases

A new CDC study reinforces reports of fewer cases of emergent conditions like heart attack and stroke in hospital EDs following the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on data from a 10-week period following declaration of the national emergency, cases of heart attack presenting in the nation’s EDs declined 23 percent, stroke declined 20 percent and uncontrolled high blood sugar declined 10 percent. The report is an early online release of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
