Care-providing facilities, including acute care hospitals, nursing homes and home care agencies, are required, as a condition of accreditation by The Joint Commission, to have a standing mechanism to address ethical issues that arise in the healthcare setting. Most organizations meet this requirement with an interdisciplinary ethics committee.

The Healthcare Ethics Committee Symposium is designed to address the vital role of healthcare ethics committees and their unique responsibilities, including education, clinical ethics consultation and policy development and review. Using case studies, published materials, institutional policies and personal experiences, the faculty and attendees will explore issues that typically require ethical analysis and resolution.

Because the program’s central focus will be skills and strategies to enhance healthcare ethics committees as an organizational resource, this intensive two-day symposium is essential for anyone who chairs, serves on or supports healthcare ethics committees.   

This program is intended for healthcare ethics committee chairs and members, including but not limited to physicians, nurses, in-house counsel, social workers, risk managers, clergy, case managers, quality improvement directors, compliance officers, other healthcare professionals and community members.

Continuing medical, legal, nursing, pharmacy and ACHE education credits are provided.
