June 19, 2017: First N.J. Nursing Home Receives Comfort Matters Accreditation for Dementia


New Jersey has its first nursing home, the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, receive accreditation from Comfort Matters, a nationally and internationally recognized dementia care program.

Comfort Matters is an evidence-based program with a holistic philosophy and integrated approaches to improving quality of life and quality of care for persons with dementia. It was developed at Beatitudes Campus in Arizona through nearly two decades of research and the latest science concerning how best to support people with dementia.

The accreditation process includes a comprehensive review of an organization’s practices, staff competencies, medical records and the integration of Comfort Matters policies and strategies. Actors Fund Home achieved accreditation in 12 months – the first facility in the United States to become accredited within one year of applying for accreditation.
