May 6, 2016: HHS Awards $260 Million to Health Centers

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced $260 million in funding to 290 health centers across the country for facility renovation, expansion or construction.

The money is directed to increase health centers’ patient capacity and to provide additional comprehensive primary and preventive health services to medically underserved populations.

Six New Jersey sites will share nearly $4.8 million in funding.

HHS said the new funding will allow health centers to renovate or acquire new clinical space and expand care to 800,000 new patients nationwide. This investment builds on the nearly $150 million awarded to 160 health centers for construction or renovation in September 2015.
