June 23, 2016: N.J. Cybersecurity Chief Promoted to Chief Technology Officer

Gov. Chris Christie announced the creation of a new chief technology officer (CTO) post in his cabinet. David Weinstein, who served as the director of cybersecurity for the state’s Office of Homeland Security, was promoted to the state’s top technical CTO position.

Christie said Weinstein will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic policies as well as information security standards and requirements.

The Governor also announced the state will spend an extra $10 million this fiscal year to harden systems against cyberattacks. This will include a comprehensive audit and assessment of the state’s technical infrastructure and networks over the next year.

During his short tenure as director of cybersecurity, Weinstein has been focused on creating awareness and promoting cybersecurity best practices across all industries. Weinstein also has been accessible to the state’s healthcare industry and supportive of its technical needs. Over the last year Weinstein’s cybersecurity team has been working closely with NJHA and its healthcare chief information security officers sharing valuable knowledge and key cybersecurity intelligence.
