June 15, 2016: Diabetes Knowledge Portal “Greatly” Expanded

The National Institutes of Health announced an expansion of data and search capabilities of the Accelerating Medicines Partnership (AMP) Type 2 Diabetes Knowledge Portal online library and discovery engine.

Customizable and simplified navigation, along with aggregated data from more than 100,000 DNA samples from research supported by NIH and other institutions, encourage new understanding of diabetes by increasing users’ ability to share and evaluate content.

Previously, the AMP was available only to approved researchers. Now anyone can search the database for detailed results; the only necessary requirement is that people accessing the database will need a Google log in.

The AMP, which launched in 2015, now includes data from European collaborators, and administrators continue to expand the network to include more national and international content. The AMP was conceived to translate findings on genetic risk factors in type 2 diabetes into valid targets for new therapies or treatments and provide insights into diabetes.
