Feb. 18, 2016: ACGME to Launch Pursuing Excellence in Clinical Learning Environments Initiative

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) announced the Pursuing Excellence in Clinical Learning Environments initiative. With the support of 20 partner organizations, the four-year initiative will provide $75,000 per year to selected institutions to promote “transformative improvement” in resident clinical learning environments.

All institutions sponsoring ACGME-accredited programs are eligible to apply for the award with the expectation that selected institutions will secure matching funding. A request for proposal is expected to be released at the ACGME’s Annual Education Conference later this month. More information on the initiative is available here.

The initiative will use innovations developed in intensive, small-group efforts and then share that learning through larger and larger networks. The program is a follow-up to the 2012 Clinical Learning Environment Review launched by ACGME.
