Aug. 22, 2016: Fund Established for Hospital Employees Affected by Louisiana Flooding

An estimated 5,000 hospital employees have suffered significant losses to their homes in the massive flooding that has swept Louisiana. In response, the Louisiana Hospital Association’s Research and Education Foundation has established the Louisiana Hospital Employee Assistance Fund to provide support to its family of hospital employees.

The Foundation has established a web site to receive donations. Click here for additional details about the fund and the scope of the disaster in Louisiana.

The Foundation aims to distribute funds based on the following criteria: Recipients must be a full- or part-time hospital employee who lives in one of the FEMA-designated disaster parishes in Louisiana, and they must have suffered significant property loss to their home or residence during the August 2016 flooding.

The nation’s hospital community has a strong tradition of supporting its colleagues when disasters strike – including an effort that assisted hospital employees in New Jersey and New York that were affected by the devastation of Superstorm Sandy. In fact, the Red Cross has declared Louisiana’s flooding the worst U.S. disaster since Sandy.

“The healthcare community cares for others in their time of need – it’s simply what we do,” said NJHA President and CEO Betsy Ryan. “NJHA pledges its support to this important effort, with New Jersey’s healthcare employees having been the recipient of that same generosity in the past.”
