Oct. 22, 2015: New Jersey Shares in $2.2 Billion in Federal AIDS Funding


The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $2.2 billion in fiscal year 2015 under the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, Secretary Sylvia Burwell announced today.

The funds go to cities, states and local community-based organizations to support a coordinated and comprehensive system of care and access to medications for more than a half- million people living with and affected by HIV in the United States.

Broken down into several different parts, the program provided about $40 million to New Jersey AIDS programs:

Part A, a total of $624.7 million, was awarded to 53 metropolitan areas to provide core medical and support services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. In New Jersey, New Brunswick, Newark, Paterson and Secaucus shared nearly $25 million.

Under Part B, approximately $1.3 billion was awarded for core medical and support services and for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program. New Jersey’s share was $5.2 million.

Part C covers early intervention services, with $186.6 million awarded across the country to 347 local community-based organizations, including hospitals and health centers, to provide core medical and support services. Ten New Jersey organizations including hospitals shared $5.2 million in Part C funding.

Under Part D, $66.8 million was awarded to 115 recipients to provide family-centered comprehensive care for women, infants, children and youth. The N.J. Department of Health received $2.1 million.

Part F provides $68.4 million to support technical assistance, clinical training, oral health services and innovative models of care. New Jersey recipients included Meridian Health, the Center for Dentistry at Hackensack University Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Rutgers University. Also under Part F, the AIDS Education and Training Centers Program provides funding to support education and training of healthcare professionals through a network of eight regional and three national centers. Rutgers was among the recipients.
