Sept. 26, 2016: Statement of Betsy Ryan, NJHA President and CEO on S-291, Addressing the Use of Telemedicine Services

This bill (S-291/A-1464) would allow our state to harness telemedicine technology to provide better healthcare at lower costs. It’s a true win-win, and NJHA strongly supports it.

We’ve seen some amazing applications in telemedicine, ranging from routine primary care assessments to behavioral health consultations to features that can detect an emergency, like a stroke, in real time. The potential is enormous for improved quality of care, increased access to care and better outcomes for our patients.

We applaud the Legislature for addressing this important issue, and we appreciate the ongoing discussions between lawmakers and our healthcare providers to craft this bill. The measure also clarifies for all – providers, insurers and regulators – their important roles in bringing the leading-edge benefits of telemedicine to New Jersey residents.
