Jan. 30, 2018: New DHS Commissioner Addresses Medical Assistance Advisory Council

Acting Department of Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson recently introduced herself to the Medical Assistance Advisory Council (MAAC) at its quarterly meeting. Johnson has been appointed by Gov. Murphy and will be considered by the state Senate for the post.

The MAAC also heard from the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services, Office of Business Intelligence, concerning the NJ FamilyCare Data Dashboard portal. The portal has been under development and is intended to provide stakeholders with access to interactive data resources about Medicaid.

Specific areas that will initially be featured are eligibility, enrollment, consumer satisfaction, long term care and a managed care report card. Additional information about the dashboard portal can be found in the MAAC presentations.

Staff from DMAHS, aging services and developmental disabilities also updated the MAAC about:

  • The substance use disorder waiver
  • Language changes in the July 2017 managed care contract, which can now be viewed online. Many of the changes were required to align with the federal Medicaid managed care final rule; others were in response to stakeholder advocacy and concerns related to hospice, readiness review and other areas
  • The status of managed long term services and supports
  • The dual diagnosis pilot and community services support program, and
  • NJ FamilyCare enrollment and the renewal of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
