According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide was the tenth leading cause of death overall in the United States in 2016, claiming the lives of nearly 45,000 people across all age categories.

Suicide was the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10 to 34, fourth leading cause among individuals between the ages 35 to 54, and eighth leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 55 to 64. The data is based on death certificate information compiled by the CDC.

In response to members’ efforts to address suicide prevention, NJHA has convened an educational collaborative aimed at providing resources and access to expert faculty in this space. Members are encouraged to register for upcoming web-based training scheduled throughout 2018.
