April 5, 2018: Statement of Cathy Bennett, NJHA President and CEO, on Revised Out-of-Network Bill

“Since the beginning of the out-of-network debate eight years ago, NJHA has stood firmly behind two priorities: protecting healthcare consumers from surprise medical bills and preserving a level playing field in negotiations between our members and insurers. We believe this legislation as amended balances these interests. This has been one of Trenton's longest-running policy debates. Bringing it to the finish line was made possible by the leadership of Speaker Coughlin, Senate President Sweeney, Senator Vitale and other sponsors. We thank them for their constructive and open dialogue with the hospital community throughout this debate. In the end, it was that shared commitment to the healthcare consumer that has brought us to a point where New Jersey is poised to enact a sound compromise bill that puts patients first and protects them from surprise medical bills.”
