The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced $28.6 million in additional funding to help 44 states respond to the opioid overdose epidemic.

New Jersey will share in a portion of the funding, which is divided into three programs:

• Prescription Drug Overdose: Prevention for States, which will fund $19.3 million in 27 states for prevention services. New Jersey is not among the states to receive money under this program.
• Data-Driven Prevention Initiative, which focuses on prescription drug monitoring programs. New Jersey is among 12 states to share in this $4.6 million allocation.
• Enhanced State Opioid Overdose Surveillance, intended to provide better tracking – and prevention of – opioid overdoses. New Jersey will share in $4.7 million in funding with 32 other states.
