Sept. 20, 2016: HHS Awards $87 Million to Health Centers for IT Enhancements

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced more than $87 million in funding for 1,310 health centers across the nation to support health information technology adoption.

In New Jersey, more than $1.6 million in funds will be distributed to 23 different health centers.

Health centers will be able to use this funding to purchase or upgrade electronic health record systems that have been certified by the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology.

This funding is part of the Affordable Care Act’s Community Health Center Fund. HHS reports that the increased use of health information technology is part of the administration’s effort to build a healthcare system that delivers better care, smarter spending and healthier people.
