May 31, 2016: Senate Confirms Bennett as Health Commissioner

Cathleen D. Bennett was confirmed by the full Senate as Commissioner of Health. Bennett has been serving as acting commissioner since August 2015.

Commissioner Bennett won unanimous support from the Senate in this final step of confirmation. Earlier this week, Bennett was cleared by the Senate Judiciary Committee with praise from Senators on the panel. Bennett was nominated by Gov. Christie in February after serving six months in an acting role.

“Commissioner Bennett’s approachable style and frequent attendance at events in the healthcare community has encouraged a free-flowing exchange of ideas that has enriched all participants,” said NJHA President and CEO Betsy Ryan. “I congratulate her on her confirmation, and we look forward to working with her on the important healthcare issues facing both providers and our patients.”

Bennett previously served as Director of Policy and Strategic Planning for the Department. Prior to joining the Department of Health, Bennett spent 20 years as an executive in the private sector.
