New Jersey is well represented on the 18th annual listing of “Most Wired” hospitals in the July 5 edition of H&HN magazine.
All told, 18 N.J. hospitals and health systems are named among the nation’s “Most Wired” hospitals, and one was cited as a most improved hospital. In addition, Holy Name Medical Center received an Innovators Award for its tool that facilitates screening and follow-up in the hospital’s Hepatitis C Screening Program and Community Service Project.
The annual awards are based on surveys from hospitals in the field, examining areas such as electronic health records, telehealth, security and privacy and other tech tools.
H&HN reports that the “Most-Wired” honorees are leaders in areas such as cybersecurity, telehealth, analytics to improve quality and data management to reduce costs. Citing survey responses, H&HN provides the following profile:
- 92 percent use cybersecurity defensive measures such as intrusion detection systems, while 67 percent are using pattern detection to prevent automated logins. 40 percent perform risk assessments for social engineering, which uses personal interaction, such as phishing e-mails to workers, to obtain password information or other protected data.
- 61 percent use telemedicine for office visits and consultations
- In population health applications, 84 percent are identifying and targeting patients for outreach, while 48 percent are synchronizing clinical and financial risk measures for clinical, operational and compliance standards.
