May 16, 2012: NJHA’s Ryan to Receive Distinguished Service Award


PRINCETON –Elizabeth A. Ryan, Esq., president and CEO of the New Jersey Hospital Association, has been selected to receive the American College of Healthcare Executives- NJ Distinguished Service award.

ACHE-NJ presents this award each year in recognition of the personal and professional contributions of a senior level New Jersey healthcare leader who has made a significant difference in the quality of and access to healthcare for state residents. Ryan also is a past recipient of the ACHE Regent's Leadership Award.

The award will be presented at ACHE-NJ’s Annual Meeting June 20 at the Johnson and Johnson Corporate Center in New Brunswick. 

As president and CEO, Ryan oversees NJHA, a not-for-profit trade organization that provides support, resources and education to the state’s hospitals and other healthcare providers. Ryan also oversees the NJHA affiliates, the nonprofit Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey, which promotes patient safety, quality improvement education and research; and the for-profit NJHA Healthcare Business Solutions, which provides group purchasing and other cost-saving solutions for healthcare providers. 

Prior to being named president and CEO in 2008, Ryan served as NJHA’s chief operating officer and general counsel. She began her career practicing law in Mount Holly and went on to serve as assistant counsel under former Gov. Jim Florio and chief of staff of the state Department of Health. She also was a senior vice president with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. and a regional executive for the American Hospital Association and the Healthcare Association of New York State. 

She lives in Florence with her husband and son.

ACHE-NJ is a chapter member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 35,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. ACHE's established network of more than 80 chapters provides access to networking, education and career development at the local level. 

The New Jersey Hospital Association, based in Princeton, is the statewide advocate for its 111 member hospitals, its 300-plus post-acute members and the patients they serve.
