Trustee Education Programs for Fullfilling Your Seven-Hour Requirement
We are pleased to offer two programs that will fulfill your state-mandated education requirements. On their own these programs provide a concentrated approach to understanding the roles and responsibilities of a trustee and the unique aspects of corporate financial statements of healthcare institutions. These seminars also include pragmatic, "how to get it done" sessions that provide attendees with tools to immediately enhance their performance as trustees.

John L. Colaizzi, PhD, has been a member of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital board for more than 25 years. He is a distinguished Rutgers University professor in the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmaceutics and Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration
During his tenure on the board at Robert Wood, Dr. Colaizzi has been instrumental in launching a number of initiatives that have contributed to the unprecedented growth from a local hospital to a major, regional academic medical center. Among them: a strengthened partnership with the UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey; development of regional centers of clinical excellence in cardiac, cancer and pediatric care; and building of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital, a major part of the effort to create a pediatric health campus in New Brunswick.

2009 Healthcare System Trustee of the Year Award
Joseph A. Maressa, ESQ.
Kennedy Health System
Joseph A. Maressa, Esq. has a long an illustrious history at Kennedy Health System in Voorhees. For more than 30 years he has served as a member of the Kennedy Memorial Hospitals – UniversityMedicalCenter board of trustees, and also served as a member of the Kennedy Health System Board for more than 25 years. He’s also a part chairman of KMH-UMC board.
During his years of service, he has chaired and played a key role on nearly every committee of both the hospital and the system boards. He was instrumental in Kennedy’s purchase of the Cherry Hill and WashingtonTownship hospital in 1980 which helped the organization grow into the multi-hospital system it is today.
Maressa also served as a New Jersey senator for 10 years and played a key role in establishing the university of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine. Gaining approval for the legislation was not easy, and it was fought by many who opposed creating a third medical school in the state, but in the end he was successful and was the prime sponsor of the 1976 senate bill to create UMDNJ – School of Osteopathic Medicine. Maressa worked diligently to help the so-called “school without walls” become a reality.
His extensive background also includes being a charter member of the Camden County College Board of Trustees and former New Jersey State Trooper. He is a native of CamdenCounty and earned his law degree from RutgersUniversity.
