My Hospital Story John Jameson, Maplewood, N.J.

After successful eye surgery, goalkeeper John Jameson is back in the net.
Goalkeeper John Jameson was in net for his Columbia High School soccer team in the semifinals of the county tournament. It was a tight game, and the ball had broken free and was coming fast down the middle toward John’s goal. He charged out of the net, with a forward for the opposing team rushing in from the other direction.

John dove for the ball. The other player released his shot. And John took the full force of the kick right in the eye.

“I was motionless on the ground for awhile,” recalls John, now a student at Syracuse University. “I pulled my hand away from my eye and there was blood on my glove.”
