Patient Race and Ethnicity: Improving Hospital Data Collection and Reporting To enhance accuracy and reliability of the data collected and reported by hospitals on the race and ethnicity of the patients they serve, HRET examined the distribution of race and ethnicity discharge data for all New Jersey acute care hospitals during 1995-2002.
The findings suggest that despite improvements in many hospitals, some data quality issues persist as they relate to the process of collecting, coding and reporting of patient race and ethnicity.
