Healthcare Data – Web Sites

N.J. Hospital Care Compare

This NJHA Web site was designed for the patient and consumer and allows for comparisons of New Jersey hospitals based on statistics regarding care delivered. It includes quality measures for: birth comparison, community-acquired pneumonia, heart failure, infection and myocardial infarction.

N.J Hospital Price Compare

This Web resource allows healthcare consumers to compare information about various services and charges at New Jersey's acute care hospitals. It reflects hospital "charges," an amount used as a starting point for negotiations. A search feature includes the top 25 DRGs, which is hospital specific and will vary from one hospital to another based on variables such as patient mix, payor mix and service mix. The ability to search by specific DRGs is included.

Healthcare Data – More Resources and Services

Building Healthier Communities
In 2001, HRET updated its publication Building Healthier Communities: A Profile of the Community's Health for each of the state's 21 counties. This resource provides a snapshot of the demographic and healthcare landscape of each county, using data from the U.S. Census; New Jersey Departments of Health, Human Services, Education, Labor, Law and Public Safety and Environmental Protection; and many other government, state and community agencies. It includes current data on each county's population.

Comparative Clinical Outcomes
HRET prepares and releases a series of comparative data on certain quality measures each year as a tool to assist hospitals in identifying opportunities to improve the quality of care provided to their communities. The data presented in this report are derived from the New Jersey Uniform Bill-Patient Summary (UB-PS) data that are collected by the New Jersey Discharge Data Collection System for all inpatients discharged from acute care hospitals in New Jersey. This report is distributed only to hospital CEOs and QA executives due to confidentiality of the included data.

Health Information Management Services (NJHAIS)
NJHAIS offers a variety of consulting services for Health Information Management professionals that can improve your organization’s performance, efficiency and quality. Staff are credentialed, experienced professionals. Services include: data quality medical record reviews, case mix-DRG pairs analysis, backlog coding services, chart-to-bill audits and more.

NJHAIS Products and Software
NJHA provides excellent tools for use in healthcare facilities. They are designed to meet specific needs of hospitals, which typically are not encompassed in a traditional hospital computer system.

Patient Race and Ethnicity: Improving Hospital Data Collection and Reporting
This initiative ensures that all data reported by hospitals and submitted to the state Department of Health and Senior Services are accurate and reliable. It includes research, reports, resources and education materials.
