Healthcare continues to create new jobs, with healthcare employment growing by 25,000 in June, according to the monthly jobs report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Total nonfarm employment increased by 213,000 for the month, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.0 percent, BLS reported today. The unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage point to 4.0 percent, with the number of unemployed persons increasing by 499,000 to 6.6 million.
With 25,000 jobs added in June, healthcare employment has increased by 309,000 over the year. Hospitals provided 11,000 of the month’s new jobs, while employment in ambulatory healthcare services continued its upward trend with 14,000 new jobs
