Feb. 23, 2018: DMAHS Issues Advance Notice on Diabetes Education Programs

The state Department of Human Services’ Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services (DMAHS) has issued advance notice regarding amendments to N.J.A.C. 10:52, the Hospital Services Manual, and N.J.A.C. 10:66, Independent Clinic Services, to address diabetes education programs.

These amendments are proposed to implement provisions of P.L. 1968, c. 413, which requires that Diabetes Self-Management Education, Medical Nutrition Therapy and Diabetes Prevention Program for pre-diabetes diagnosis only be provided as covered services under the Medicaid/NJ FamilyCare program to individuals who have been diagnosed with diabetes, gestational diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Comments will be accepted until March 21. All comments regarding the advance notice of the upcoming proposed rulemaking should be sent to DMAHS’ Margaret M. Rose at Margaret.Rose@dhs.state.nj.us

NJHA’s Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey continues its work serving as a Diabetes Resource Coordination Center, working with hospitals, community health centers, community-based organizations and other provider and community stakeholders to maximize participation in diabetes education programs.
