Mar. 23, 2017: NJHA to Host LGBT Competency Workshop April 26

The LGBT community continues to be an underserved population in the healthcare field, with poorer health outcomes – related to stigma and barriers to care – than the heterosexual community.

NJHA will host a complimentary, full-day LGBT Community Health Workgroup Cultural Competency Workshop April 26. This program is designed to help healthcare workers develop LGBT cultural competencies with a particular focus on resources to aid in educating patients and families and significant other inclusion; the collection of sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) data; and understanding the unique health needs and outcomes of the LGBT population.

Aaron Potenza, program director, and Benjamin Fisher, health and wellness coordinator at Garden State Equality, will lead the program with a discussion on cultural competency training.

This program is targeted toward physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and pharmacists and quality improvement professionals. ACHE, CME, nursing, public health and pharmacy credits will be provided.

There is no cost to attend, however registration is required.
