Jan. 25, 2017: MedPAC and MACPAC Release Dual Eligibles Data Book

The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) and Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission (MACPAC) today jointly released the latest edition of the Beneficiaries Dually Eligible for Medicare and Medicaid data book.

Dually eligible beneficiaries receive both Medicare and Medicaid benefits by virtue of age or disability and low income.

This is the fourth edition of the book, updated with 2012 data and 2008–2012 trends in the dually eligible population’s composition, service use and spending. The report represents a continuation of the ongoing efforts by MedPAC and MACPAC to create a common understanding of dually eligible beneficiaries, a relatively small group that accounts for a disproportionate share of both Medicare and Medicaid spending.

In 2012, New Jersey’s enrollment of dual eligibles was 222,000, ranking the state 13th in the country. In average annual growth of dual eligible enrollment from 2008 to 2012, New Jersey was below the national average of 3.7 percent. The state’s average growth rate of 2.2 percent was ranked 42 among 51.

The book is available for download on both commissions’ websites: http://www.medpac.gov/ and http://www.macpac.gov/
