Gov.-elect Phil Murphy has chosen Assemblywoman Marlene Caride (D-Ridgefield) to lead the Department of Banking and Insurance. 

Caride, a private practice attorney, has served in the Legislature since 2012. She currently serves as the chair of the Education Committee, as well as on the Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee. Murphy said he will charge Caride with helping establish a New Jersey public bank. If confirmed, Caride would be the first Latina to hold the position of DOBI commissioner.
