Gov.-elect Phil Murphy announced he will nominate Gurbir Grewel as the state’s next attorney general.
Grewel is the Bergen County prosecutor, a post to which he was nominated in 2013 by Gov. Chris Christie. Prior to that, he was the former chief of the Economic Crimes Unit under U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman. He will be the state’s first Sikh attorney general and the first of South Asian descent.
This is just the second cabinet appointment Murphy has announced. He previously announced his running mate Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver will serve as commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs as well as lieutenant governor.
Both nominations will be sent to the state Senate for confirmation after Murphy assumes office.
