Sept. 12, 2019: Statement of Cathy Bennett, President and CEO of NJHA, on Protecting New Jerseyans from Health Risks of Vaping

"New Jersey has been a leader in curbing the ill effects of tobacco with the Smoke Free Air Act in 2006, and again in 2017 by raising the smoking age to 21. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaping products and e-cigarettes are known to have harmful carcinogenic properties that can have a significant negative effect on adolescents, young adults and pregnant women. Companies that sell these products are being investigated for their marketing strategies that are attractive to youth, including packaging and flavors such as Gummi Bear, Banana Nut Bread and Candy Crash. The time is now to lead again in 2019 with this action to improve the health of the people of New Jersey."
