NJHA 9-11 Relief Fund Dollars Going Directly To N.J. Families, December 21, 2001

More than $56,000 raised from NJHA staff, member hospitals and individual contributors from as far away as Texas will go directly to families victimized by the events of Sept. 11. Last week NJHA President Gary Carter was joined by Rahway Hospital CEO Kirk Tice in delivering an NJHA check to the Newark Star Ledger's Disaster Relief Fund. The Ledger, the state's largest daily newspaper, has raised more than $1.3 million in cooperation with the Community Foundation of New Jersey and the Salvation Army. Monies are going directly to New Jersey victims' families and being used for such things as rent, clothing, food, tuition and day care expenses. Rahway Hospital was the largest single hospital contributor to the fund, donating more than $10,000. Joining Carter and Tice in giving the check to Ledger General Manager Mark Newhouse were NJHA Facilities Supervisor Kasim Delalic and Rahway's Food Services Coordinator Maria Moteiro. Said Star-Ledger Publisher Linda Dennery: "Your generosity is most welcomed. This is real money that will go to New Jersey families and guardians who need and can use it now."
