Eleanor Meets Eleanor; Most Distinguished Visitor at A.H.A. Convention
September 1937
The candid camera captures Miss Eleanor Hamilton, President of the New Jersey
Hospital Association, in a happy moment, talking about her own paintings at the
Hobby Exhibit with Mrs. Roosevelt. …The Hobby Exhibit, easily first in
popularity, was arranged and staged by Otis N. Auer, of Monmouth Memorial
Hospital.
Having come to Atlantic City to speak at a dinner honoring Mrs. Eleanor Clark
Slagle on her retirement from the Presidency of the American Occupational
Therapy Association, Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt conferred a signal honor on the
American Hospital Association by devoting a full hour on Tuesday afternoon to a
tour of the Exhibits at Convention Hall. … she displayed again those lovable
qualities for which she has become nationally famous; a sincere and
understanding interest in all matters concerning human welfare, and a charm of
manner which instantly creates a warm response in everyone who has the good
fortune to be near.
Among the Exhibits arranged under the direction of members of the New Jersey
[Hospital] Association, Mrs. Roosevelt showed particular interest in the Hobby
Exhibit staged by Otis Auer, the Architectural Exhibit managed by Charles Lee,
and the Pictorial Panorama of New Jersey Hospitals...
