Libraries Encourage Hospital-Community Collaboration

The National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) announced a Web site: "Public Libraries and Community Partners: Working Together to Provide Health Information." This guide encourages health information partnerships between medical and public libraries, members of the NN/LM and local health or community-based organizations. It includes background on consumer health and extensive information for organizations interested in preparing health outreach projects in their local communities.

Locally, The Health Sciences Library Association of New Jersey (HSLANJ) launched an outreach campaign to the state's public libraries, promoting the supplemental reference services hospital librarians provide public librarians. Phase one created an awareness of hospital libraries via an exhibit at the New Jersey Library Association annual meeting and the new HSLANJ Web directory, "Supplemental Reference Services for Librarians." Phase two involves distribution of a promotional brochure and bookmark further detailing the services of hospital libraries.
