2005 Health Career Scholarship Recipients
October 7, 2005
The NJHA Executive Trustee Golf Tournament celebrated its 24th anniversary this year with the 2005 scholarship awards. The goal of the scholarships it to encourage New Jersey residents to pursue health careers since 1983. The scholarships are for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in a healthcare program. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be in an accredited health career program, maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better and demonstrate financial need. This year HRET is pleased to present two scholarship awards:
Patricia Garcia-Perez and her family emigrated from Mexico to the United States during her final year of high school to pursue the American dream. After she graduated high school in New Jersey, Patricia entered Kean University to pursue a degree in medical technology. This year, as part of her program, she will attend Jersey Shore University Medical Center School of Clinical Laboratory Science. She has maintained a grade point average of 3.47 and strong endorsement from her professors. Her future plans include studying to become a physician.
Carmen Garcia is a graduate student starting her first year of classes at UMDNJ to become a physician assistant. She graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in biology with a 3.6 grade point average and worked at UMDNJ as a research-teaching specialist in histopathologic diagnosis at the Dental School. While employed, she also found time to be a hospital volunteer. With a strong commitment to healthcare, Carmen looks forward to serving in a disadvantaged community, helping residents gain access to healthcare.
