Health Career Scholarships
Previous Award Recipients – 2003

Scholarship Recipients, Golfers All Winners At Event
October 3, 2003
Two women pursuing ongoing studies in healthcare and 124 golfers from throughout the state all found something to cheer about at NJHA's 22nd Annual Executive Trustee Golf Tournament held this week at the spectacular Tournament Players Club at Jasna Polana in Princeton.

Since 1983, NJHA's Health Research and Educational Trust has awarded health career scholarships as part of its goal to encourage New Jersey residents to choose health careers. To date more than $130,000 has been awarded. This year's winners, announced at the golf outing, are Amanda Morina of Ocean City and Hasana O'Neal of Laurel Springs.

Morina is studying physical therapy at the Thomas Jefferson University College of Health Professions. She completed her course work at St. Joseph’s University a year early and switched her major from biology to physical therapy after working at NovaCare, PACE orthopedics, Lankenau Hospital and Shore Memorial Hospital. She has maintained a 3.6 grade point average.

Studying to be a physician's assistant at Drexel University, O'Neal is now in the midst of her clinical studies. She said she wants to focus on cardiology when she completes the program. Even working part-time, she maintained a 3.9 overall grade point average and remains committed to the healthcare profession and serving the community.

On the golf front, first place team honors went to Monmouth Medical Center with Solaris Health System finishing second. Palisades Medical Center and Hackettstown Hospital took third and fourth places. Individual winners included: longest drive, John Samerjan, executive director of the Senate Republicans; straightest drive, Mike D'Agnes, Raritan Bay Medical Center; first low net, Dr. Frank Vozos, Monmouth Medical Center; and first low gross, Peter Ventrello, Solaris Health System.
