Bachelor's of Science in Nursing Degree Programs - BSN

There are two types of bachelor's degree programs — generic and upper division. A generic program is a four-year undergraduate program where the student receives all college course work and nursing clinical training in one program. Upper division BSN programs are for registered nurses who have graduated from either a diploma or associate degree nursing program who wish to continue their education to earn a bachelor's degree (RN to BSN Programs). Graduates of generic four-year college nursing programs will be granted a bachelor's degree in nursing and will be eligible to take the licensure examination to practice as a registered nurse. Graduates of an upper division bachelor's degree program earn their BSN, often while continuing to work as a registered nurse. Opportunities for professional advancement are greatest for those nurses with a BSN. A bachelor's degree is necessary for entry into a master's degree program.
