This offering presents strategies to assist you in forming or enhancing your palliative care program. By the conclusion of this session a few things participants will be able to are identify challenges and barriers as well as the necessary stakeholders for starting or expanding a palliative care program; develop specific goals for your program; examine the unique culture of your own institution; learn how to make the financial case for starting, sustaining or expanding a palliative care program; recognize patients within your institution most likely to benefit from palliative care services; describe common challenges in communication between physicians, patients and families in the face of serious illness; and identify processes and communication strategies for better respecting patients’ and families’ concerns in the midst of serious illness.
