Overview Of ADSPN Member Schools
- Diploma nursing education has a rich history in New Jersey. Approximately 50 percent of the schools have been in existence for 75 to 100 years. All diploma schools of nursing are approved by the New Jersey Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
- The 12 ADSPN-member diploma schools of professional nursing are located throughout the state of New Jersey. These schools are sponsored by hospitals and medical centers that support them both philosophically and financially.
- The length of the schools' programs range from 22 to 27 months. Upon successful completion of a course of study, graduates receive a Diploma in Nursing and are eligible to sit for the National Council of Nursing Licensure Examination, referred to as the NCLEX-RN. Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, the graduate receives a license to practice registered professional nursing in New Jersey. Diploma graduates consistently do well on the licensure examination and go on to practice in a variety of healthcare settings.
- Cooperative agreements have been established between several schools of nursing and local two- or four-year colleges. In addition to the Diploma in Nursing presented by the school of nursing, graduates of these programs receive an Associate of Science degree from the cooperating college.
- Articulation agreements have been established between many diploma schools of nursing and upper division, or four-year, baccalaureate degree nursing programs. These agreements allow transfer of both nursing and college course credits to promote and facilitate career mobility.
