Executive Biographies
Elizabeth A. Ryan, Esq., President and CEO, New Jersey Hospital Association

Elizabeth A. Ryan, Esq. is the president and CEO of the Princeton-based New Jersey Hospital Association, a not-for-profit trade association representing New Jersey’s hospitals and additional facilities throughout the full continuum of healthcare.
Prior to assuming the role of CEO, Ryan served as NJHA’s Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. As CEO, Ryan oversees services in advocacy, communications, data, education and other areas to help the state’s healthcare providers better serve their patients. Her responsibilities include oversight of NJHA’s operations including legal and legislative activities, policy development, continuing care, health economics, health planning, clinical affairs and human resources departments. In addition to fostering member advocacy on such issues as charity care funding, healthcare reform and quality improvement, she is responsible for coordinating advocacy efforts at both the state and federal levels.
She also oversees NJHA’s affiliates: Health Research and Educational Trust of New Jersey, a non-for-profit organization that promotes continuing patient safety, quality improvement education and research; the for-profit Healthcare Business Solutions, which provides group purchasing and other business solutions for healthcare providers; and the Healthcare Employees Federal Credit Union.
Previously Ryan practiced law in MountHolly and went on to serve as assistant counsel under former Gov. Jim Florio and Chief of Staff of the state Department of Health. She also was a senior vice president with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. and a regional executive for the American Hospital Association and the Healthcare Association of New York State. She also served as a member of New Jersey’s Board of Medical Examiners, the Clinton-Gore Transition Team and the legal audit team for the Clinton National Health Care Reform Task Force. She served as a member of both Governor Corzine’s and Governor McGreevey’s transition teams. She has served on the Township Council in Florence Township, Burlington County. Ryan received her law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University. She resides in Florence, N.J. with her husband and son.
