New Jersey Health Information Management Association (NJHIMA)

Mission
The New Jersey Health Information Management Association (NJHIMA) is a component state association of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

To promote excellence of NJHIMA members in the management of health information through professional development and innovation.

This will be accomplished by addressing the following key areas:

Practice Leadership:

  • To facilitate, organize and maintain communication among all NJHIMA customers in an effort to support and encourage the highest levels of competence in credentialled practitioners and certified specialists.
  • To facilitate and support participation of NJHIMA and its members with relation to legislation, regulation, and alliances with other groups.
Education and Professional Development:

  • Provide and promote continuing education to ensure excellence in health information management.
Building the Association:

  • Foster fiscal integrity of NJHIMA through prudent management of resources, objective evaluation of fiscal decision making and accurate reporting.
  • Facilitate, support and encourage the participation of NJHIMA members as well as recruit future health information professionals.
Membership Eligibility
Active:
Health information management professionals holding a valid AHIMA credential. Credentials include: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT); Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); and Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P).

Associate: Other individuals interested in the health information management profession and related issues.

Corporate:Organizations interested in AHIMA's mission and health information issues.

Senior: Individuals who have previously held Active or Associate membership and who are 65 years or older at the time of membership renewal.

Student: Students currently enrolled in an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) approved health information administration or health information technology program, including AHIMA's Independent Study Program. The program must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs in cooperation with AHIMA's Council on Accreditation. RHITs enrolled in health information administration programs are also eligible for student membership.
